The city of Turku is situated on the southwest coast of Finland at the mouth of the Aura River. It is the oldest city in Finland. Turku has been the most important population center in Finland for a long time. It was the first capital city of Finland from 1809 to 1812 and continued to be the largest city by population until the end of 1840s. Turku is still a regional capital and important location for business and culture.

Turku Castle and Historical Museum
The Turku Castle is a tourist attraction that is over 700 years old. The Castle has a museum, which demonstrates the history of the Turku region from prehistory to present day with its frequent exhibitions, events and traditional rooms. The Castle also offers concerts and events both for children and adults.

Turku Cathedral and Cathedral Museum
The oldest parts of Turku Cathedral date from the beginning of the 13th century. Turku Cathedral is the mother church of the Lutheran Church of Finland and National Shrine of the country. The Cathedral Museum in the southern gallery takes a visitor back in times to the 14th century.

Sibelius Museum
The Sibelius Museum was founded in 1926 by Professor Otto Anderson in honour of Finland's most famous composer. It has an extensive collection of fascinating manuscripts, newspaper clippings, recorded music etc. A completely new Sibelius exhibition covers the composer's life, artistic work and his role as an idol and national symbol. The museum also houses an exhibition of traditional instruments from around the world. The museum building is one of the most original Finnish creations of the 1960s.
